Participation Requirements
Participants and Team Organisation
STRATON Europa is open to students and doctoral candidates representing universities from European countries. Participation in the event is free of charge and voluntary, and the competition takes place in person. A maximum of 20 teams, each consisting of 2–3 members, will participate in the event.
Teams should be as interdisciplinary as possible. They may bring together students and doctoral candidates from different study programmes and academic disciplines. Teams with diverse skill sets and, where feasible given recruitment considerations, international compositions are preferred. English is the working language of the event and is used for competition materials, mentoring sessions, and final presentations.
Participant Recruitment
Participants are recruited in accordance with the Rules of Participation in the Project.
Applications are submitted via an online application form. The form collects basic information about the applicant, including their university and country, field of study or academic discipline, student or doctoral candidate status, and year of study. It also includes a brief statement outlining the applicant’s competencies and motivation, as well as the required declarations concerning acceptance of the rules, personal data protection, and consent to the use of their image.
Participant Selection Criteria
The selection process is based on mandatory formal eligibility requirements and scored selection criteria.
Mandatory formal eligibility criterion
Student or doctoral candidate status — meeting this requirement is a prerequisite for proceeding to the next stage of the recruitment process.
Scored selection criteria
Motivation to participate in the event — 0–5 points. The applicant’s motivation, as described in the application form, will be assessed.
Relevance of competencies to the nature of the event — 0–5 points. The applicant’s competencies, as described in the application form, will be assessed.
Candidates will be ranked according to their scores, taking into account the countries and universities they represent, as well as their fields of study and academic disciplines. In the event of a tie, the selection process will take into consideration the need to ensure genuine diversity among participants in terms of countries, universities, and represented fields of study and academic disciplines.
The selection process takes into account compliance with formal eligibility requirements, applicants’ motivation, the relevance of their competencies to the nature of the event, and the need to ensure genuine diversity in terms of countries, universities, and academic disciplines.
